In preparation for the online holiday shopping season, one that is forecasted to see sales rise over $60 billion dollars1, potential web-shoppers are scouting out your website.
These savvy shoppers are looking for retailers that not only offer the best deals, but also the payment methods they prefer to use.
More and more Customers are choosing authentication, as they look for a safe and secure way to shop online.
Many individuals remain hesitant about entering sensitive information on a website, or worry about safety and security of the Internet as a whole. Shoppers are advised about preventing fraud by shopping at reputable sites, properly logging out of a session, and registering and using authentication services that are available from Visa and MasterCard. Sandra Quinn, director of communications at APACS, a trade association for the clearing banks, encourages shoppers to “help keep your card safe from being used fraudulently on the Internet… sign up for Verified by Visa and MasterCard SecureCode – you simply register a private password with your card company and use it when you shop online at participating retailers."2
Your Customers know about authentication and want to use it.
The Visa and MasterCard authentication initiatives Verified by Visa (VbV) and MasterCard SecureCode not only offer protection against fraud but can offset the rising costs of fraud screening. VbV and SecureCode will give you peace of mind because of the protection that authentication brings. You are ensured that your Customers are who they say they are when they use authentication.
The benefits of participating in the VbV and SecureCode programs include fraudulent chargeback protection and lower credit/debit card costs. Lower costs are on average, $0.20 per $100 of sales and your employees can spend more time filling holiday orders and less time with manual review.
Along with your holiday merchandise, give your Customers authentication, the most safe payment method available, and let your business reap the many benefits; the most important being satisfied, loyal Customers.
Through Cardinal Centinel, the Universal Merchant Platform, we can ensure that your transactions are moved from any place to the right place; the right way. Through authentication you can both please your Customer and ensure your Customer is who they say they are, eliminating your risk of a fraudulent chargeback.
Cardinal can connect you to Visa and MasterCard’s authentication programs, as well as other alternative payment brands your Customers want, with a single simple integration.

Picture Perfect: Ritz Interactive Captures More Sales through CardinalCentinelTM [+/-] Read More
A snapshot of Ritz Interactive shows a successful eCommerce network, selling quality leisure time products on a number of websites. Ranked #114 in the 2007 Internet Retailer Top 500, they also have a reputation for competitive prices and outstanding customer service. Given these accomplishments, it’s apparent that Ritz Interactive gets the picture when it comes to eCommerce.
Therefore, when they recognized consumers’ security concerns with online shopping and sharing financial information over the Internet, Ritz Interactive knew that they needed a solution. They wanted one solution that could be implemented across their vast network of websites, including RitzCamera.com and BoatersWorld.com, which would both alleviate existing customers’ concerns and attract a new customer base. Ritz Interactive found what they were looking for in Cardinal CentinelTM.
By implementing Centinel, Ritz Interactive was able to employ Verified by Visa and MasterCard SecureCode across their network, quickly and easily. The VbV and SecureCode initiatives offer enrolled consumers an extra layer of security when using their credit cards to make online purchases. Ritz Interactive also gained access to PayPal through Cardinal CentinelTM. PayPal offers an alternative payment method to consumers that want a way to make online purchases without sharing sensitive financial information over the Internet.
“Ritz Interactive has witnessed increased consumer satisfaction, lower transaction costs… as well as protection from chargebacks. We had an exceptional experience with Cardinal’s support team and we continue to use them as an ongoing resource.” Peter Tahmin, Vice President and COO, Ritz Interactive.
Taking advantage of VbV and SecureCode gives Ritz Interactive eligibility for lower interchange rates and fraudulent chargeback protection, while increasing their average order value. Additionally, employing PayPal gives them access to the 153+ million PayPal account holders that regularly seek out online merchants offering this alternative payment option.

Developer's Corner
Cardinal’s development team is excited to announce a new standard menu page for all API transactions. The Read Me file has been updated for simplified usage. Merchants are now able to access files specific to their needs through a directory structure; all wrapped in an improved user interface.
The user interface has been redesigned to provide merchants with a better feel for the required data elements of each individual payment brand’s transactions. Also, there is an overall improved code readability.
Additionally, our Documentation and Software link (for acquiring code) has been updated with a form-based email approach, also complete with a new user interface.
